WEISS Belt-Driven Linear Actuators
The WEISS Belt-Driven Linear Actuators represent a class of highly dynamic linear units equipped with a pre-tensioned, steel-reinforced polyurethane timing toothed belt. Designed for maximum efficiency, these actuators deliver high speeds, good positioning accuracy, and rigorous repeatability. These performance characteristics make the belt-driven series exceptionally well-suited for automation applications requiring rapid transit times over extended distances.
WEISS Screw-Driven Linear Actuators
The WEISS Screw-Driven Series describes a line of compact linear units equipped with a precision ball screw drive and an integrated guide rail. Engineered to strike a critical balance between precision and power, the screw-driven series is built to meet the rigorous demands of high-precision and high-thrust industrial applications.
Core Mechanics & Load Handling
At the structural core of the belt-driven series is a compact, precision-extruded 6063 AL aluminum profile. The integration of a zero-backlash ball rail guide system within this profile allows the unit to handle high load capabilities and optimal motion cycles for the movement of larger masses at high speeds. The drive itself utilizes a zero-backlash drive pulley, ensuring the ability to handle high moments and alternating loads with low wear and noise. Some specific configurations within the series can even achieve travel speeds up to 10 m/s.

The structural foundation relies on a precision-extruded aluminum profile with an integrated, zero-backlash guide system. The use of a precision ball screw inherently provides reduced backlash, ensuring exacting accuracy, strict repeatability, and high thrust capabilities. For applications requiring higher speeds over longer strokes, available sliding ball screw supports can be integrated to reduce vibration and deflection.
Environmental Protection
To maintain reliability in active environments, the driving polyurethane timing belt is routed directly over the profile slot. This design inherently protects all internal parts from dust and other standard industrial contaminations. Optional corrosion-resistant protection strips are also available for harsher environments.

Like their belt-driven counterparts, the screw-driven units maintain clean internal mechanics through protective seals and covers, shielding the ball screw and guide rails from particulate buildup.
Maintenance & Integration
Routine maintenance is streamlined through dedicated carriage lubrication ports, allowing for the easy re-lubrication of the linear unit. Additionally, the external aluminum profile includes integrated T-slots, providing secure, flexible mounting points for fixing the unit and attaching necessary sensors and switches.

Routine maintenance is highly efficient, utilizing a central lubrication port on the carriage. This design allows for quick, single-point re-lubrication of both the precision ball screw and the integrated guide rail without requiring the disassembly of the unit. Furthermore, the external aluminum profile features integrated T-slots. This ensures secure, flexible mounting points for fixing the linear unit directly into a machine bed and allows for the seamless attachment of required sensors and limit switches.
Direct Comparison: Belt-Driven vs. Screw-Driven
While both series utilize precision-extruded aluminum profiles and integrated rail guides, their underlying drive mechanics dictate distinctly different applications:
- Speed vs. Thrust: The Belt-Driven series is optimized for high-speed operations, with specialized configurations capable of reaching velocities up to 10 m/s. The Screw-Driven series is engineered for power, delivering significantly higher axial thrust capabilities for pushing, pulling, or lifting heavy loads.
- Stroke Length: Belt-Driven actuators excel in long-stroke applications, providing efficient motion solutions and maintaining their high speeds over greater distances. Screw-Driven units are generally limited in stroke length due to the natural deflection of a spinning screw, though optional sliding ball screw supports can extend their viable range.
- Positioning Accuracy: While belt drives offer good accuracy, the Screw-Driven series provides superior, exacting precision and repeatability due to the rigid mechanical linkage and low backlash of the precision ball screw.
- Ideal Applications: Choose the Belt-Driven series for rapid pick-and-place, packaging, or long-distance transfer systems. Choose the Screw-Driven series for heavy-duty positioning, automated clamping, pressing, or applications requiring absolute structural certainty down to the micrometer.
